Amy Mullen, president of Money Quotient, joins me to discuss the human side of financial planning and her own evolving definition of success. Money Quotient provides education, tools, and a structured discovery process that help financial professionals understand their clients’ values, motivations, and priorities—and connect financial decisions to the lives clients want to lead.
Amy shares how she unexpectedly fell in love with the work after joining her mother, Money Quotient co-founder Carol Anderson, in 2001. Over time, her role grew from supporting her mother’s research to developing education, teaching advisors, and ultimately leading the organization. Following her mother’s departure, Amy has been exploring how to honor that legacy while making the business her own—reshaping its structure and focusing on the teaching, speaking, and client conversations she loves.
We also explore the pressure to grow, the inspiration Amy found in successful planners working fewer hours, and her desire to create more space for creativity, relationships, and joy in her life.
Together, we consider a question that applies to our clients and ourselves: How can we design our work to support our lives—and give ourselves permission to choose enough?
